Senate Concurrent Resolution 584

A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION COMMENDING MISSISSIPPI STATE BULLDOG RUNNING BACK JAMES JOHNSON FOR HIS OUTSTANDING ATHLETIC ACCOMPLISHMENTS.

WHEREAS, James Johnson was awarded the 1998 Conerly Trophy recognizing him as Mississippi's best collegiate football player in 1998; and

WHEREAS, in just two seasons, James Johnson etched his name among the greatest running backs to ever wear the Maroon and White; and

WHEREAS, James Johnson finished his career with 2,452 yards in just 23 games, the fourth best rushing mark in school history; and

WHEREAS, James Johnson set the single season record with 1,383 yards in 1998; and

WHEREAS, James Johnson is the only MSU back to rush for more than 1,000 yards in back-to-back seasons; and

WHEREAS, James Johnson set the single game record with a 237-yard effort against Alabama in 1998; and

WHEREAS, James Johnson was a consensus first-team, all-Southeastern Conference running back; and

WHEREAS, it is the policy of the Legislature to recognize and commend the noteworthy accomplishments of the state's citizens:

NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE MISSISSIPPI STATE SENATE, THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES CONCURRING THEREIN, That we commend James Johnson for his outstanding athletic accomplishments and wish him continued success in his endeavors.

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this resolution be presented to James Johnson.
